Okay, so it is just decorative foam! It’s nice decorative foam. It’s steps up from the traditional alphabet foam look. If you care about aesthetics although a little pricey then this is the foam for you. I also love how it came with end pieces so that you can actually close the pieces off vs puzzle piece edges. It gives the end result a more polished look.

This is a beautiful mat that is perfect for padding our hard floors. My baby can still do tummy time with no issue!

We are very happy with our purchase of this play mat. We got the 6 x 8 and it is a great size for our living room. I feel that tummy time is safer now with mat.
